Shanghai Social Insurance Fund Administration & Settlement Center with its affiliated 19 district/county social insurance administration centers takes charge of management and settlement of social insurance fund. Specifically, they are responsible for collection of pension insurance premiums, maternity insurance premiums, health and unemployment insurance premiums etc., and also the distribution of pension and maternity benefits as well as the administration of individual pension accounts. All these operation and administration have been computerized. Meanwhile, all the district/county centers are equipped with multi-media enquiry system to provide keen services.
By the end of 2002, employing units registered with the centers totaled 101,000. 4.5285 million working people and 2.4692 million retirees were covered by the social insurance schemes. Distribution of pension has been 100% socialized. In addition, special services such as pension delivery to the door of some pensioners with special difficulty are provided in all communities |

In December 2001, Shanghai Labour & Social Security Bureau opened its call center, which set up a channel of direct communication with the public. Now, the center has 180 lines and 80 operators delivering 365-day round--the-clock service. The operators answer all the calls through the line of 12333.
The enquiry system encompasses six service items, such as operator answering questions, listening to recording and fax transmission etc.. It is consisted of six databases as document database, question & answer base, typical case bases, service guidance base, document faxing and recording bases. The system is updated to provide up--to--date service.
Now the system has a capacity of receiving over 10,000 calls per day.
